THE UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES
   Bachelor of Music in Composition
   Bachelor of Music in composition with jazz/commercial emphasis
The Bachelor of Music degree in composition emphasizes creative work in contemporary music intended for concentrated listening, often in concert hall settings, in the tradition of American concert music.

The Bachelor of Music degree in composition with jazz/commercial emphasis emphasizes creative work in improvisation, jazz and other musics.

While it is possible to work out a course of study that is a combination of both these perspectives, the program is designed to offer intensive study in one or the other. A student often makes his or her choice upon arrival, but the decision can wait several semesters without undue hardship regarding course requirements.  The specific course requirements for the two degrees can be found in the links list on this page.
